Apple Pie Filling Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 5 cups peeled and chopped apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Melt butter in a skillet. Add apples and lemon juice. Cook 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients and cook 4 to 5 more minutes until thickened and soft.
  3. Cool before using or storing.

  • Freezes well for up to 3 months
  • Use in pies, crisps, turnovers, or on oatmeal
  • Make ahead for Thanksgiving or fall baking
