This easy apple turnover recipe with pie crust is cozy, flaky, and filled with warm cinnamon apples. Made with simple ingredients and no fancy tools, this is the perfect fall treat for bakers of all levels.
2 to 2½cupspeeleddiced apples (about 2 medium apples)
1teaspoonlemon juice
2tablespoonssugar
1tablespoonhoney
1tablespoonall-purpose flour
½teaspooncinnamon
Pinchof nutmeg
Pinchof salt
¼teaspoonvanilla extract
For finishing
1egg + 1 tablespoon waterbeaten
Optional: coarse sugar
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
In a skillet, melt butter. Add apples and lemon juice. Stir in sugar, honey, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cook for 5–6 minutes, then stir in vanilla. Let cool.
Roll out pie crusts on a floured surface into rough rectangles. Cut each into 3 even pieces (6 total).
Spoon 3 tablespoons of filling into each piece. Brush edges with egg wash, fold over, and seal with a fork.
Optional: chill turnovers in the fridge for 10 minutes.
Cut 2–3 small slits in the top. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
