What You’ll Need to Make This Pizza

  • Pizza dough: you can use store-bought dough like this trader joe’s pizza dough, or make your own at home. I love to make this easy Italian pizza dough ahead of time during my weekly meal prep!
  • Pizza Sauce: use your favorite marinara or pizza sauce to top your dough. When I have fresh tomatoes from the garden, I make my favorite pizza sauce from scratch! It’s seriously packed with flavor and makes homemade pizzas way better.
  • Mozzarella Cheese: This gives the pizza its classic cheesy goodness. If you like, add some Asiago cheese for an extra sharp, nutty flavor.
  • Pepperoni: The star of the show. Use about 10 slices to cover the pizza evenly. I love Trader Joe’s oversized pepperonis, but any works great!
  • Hot Honey: Adds a sweet heat that balances the salty pepperoni. There are so many hot honey recipes for pizza, but my favorite is to mix 1/4 c. of honey with 1 tsp sriracha. Trust me, it’s sooooo good!
  • Pepper and Italian Seasoning: These simple seasonings bring out the flavors of the sauce and toppings.

How to Make Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza

  1. Preheat oven to 475°F. If using a pizza stone, place the stone in the oven for at least one hour while preheating.
  2. Dust your work surface with flour or cornmeal. Roll out and shape the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  3. Transfer the shaped crust onto your pan or pizza stone. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving about 1 inch from the edge for a crust.
  4. Sprinkle the mozzarella (and Asiago if using) over the sauce. Arrange pepperoni slices and other desired toppings on top. Sprinkle pepper and Italian seasoning over the pizza.
  5. Brush the edges of the crust with olive oil (and herbs, if desired) for a golden brown finish.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  7. Drizzle hot honey over the pizza right before serving. Let cool and enjoy!

FAQ’s: Storing, Alternatives, & Substitutions

Can I use store-bought pizza dough?

Yes! Store-bought pizza dough works perfectly. Just follow the package instructions for rolling it out. Homemade dough is always a great option if you have the time.

What’s the best way to add hot honey to the pizza?

For the best results, drizzle the hot honey over the pizza right after it comes out of the oven. This way, the honey melts slightly without losing its heat and sweetness.

Can I use a different type of cheese?

Absolutely! While mozzarella is classic for pizza, adding a bit of Asiago gives the pizza a richer, more complex flavor. You can also experiment with other cheeses like Parmesan or cheddar.

How can I make my own hot honey?

To make your own hot honey, simply warm ¼ cup of honey with 1 teaspoon of sriracha or ½ teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes on the stove for a few minutes. Let it cool before drizzling on your pizza.

What toppings can I add to my pizza?

Add extra toppings like mushrooms, onions, olives, peppers, or ricotta. Just be mindful not to overload the pizza so it cooks evenly.

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza dough
  • ½ cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese optional: add some Asiago cheese for extra flavor
  • 10 pepperoni slices
  • 2 tbsp hot honey (make a batch with 1/4 c. honey and 1 tsp sriracha)
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Italian seasoning to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 475°F. If using a pizza stone, place the stone in the oven for at least one hour while preheating.
  • Dust your work surface with flour or cornmeal. Roll out and shape the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

  • Brush the edges of the crust with olive oil (and herbs, if desired) for a golden brown finish.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, combine honey and sriracha (or red chili flakes) in a bowl.
  • Drizzle hot honey over the pizza right before serving. Let cool and enjoy!

Notes

  • Dough Tips: Let your pizza dough come to room temperature before rolling it out to make it easier to stretch. For a crispier crust, try using a pizza stone if you have one.
  • Cheese: For extra flavor, mix in some Asiago cheese with the mozzarella. It adds a nice sharpness that complements the hot honey.
  • Hot Honey: Drizzle the honey after baking to keep its sweet and spicy kick intact. If you like a milder heat, reduce the amount to 1 tablespoon.
  • Baking: Keep an eye on the pizza in the last few minutes of baking. You want the cheese bubbly and the crust golden but not burnt.
